lives and loads.

Safety is the number one priority at Barloworld Transport, and the preservation of life and limb is a non-negotiable imperative throughout our business. Through strong focus on employee training, vehicle maintenance and general risk management we have entrenched a culture of "safety first" in all our operations.

Investing in People

People lie at the heart of any safety initiative. As such we comply with safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) regulations and principles, which promote awareness of, commitment to and compliance with these issues. SHEQ is integrated across all business units.

In 2009 we established the Barloworld Transport Training Centre, through which all our drivers are required to complete the Annual Driver Refresher Programme at least once a year to ensure their advanced driving skills remain up to standard.

For new drivers we offer an accredited learnership programme that aims to produce professional truck drivers. Our programmes are fully endorsed by the Transport Education and Training Authority and includes an internationally recognised Professional Driver qualification.

Managing Risk

Managing on-road risk is an integral part of our safety strategy, and part of this entails the continuous monitoring of driver and vehicle performance to keep on-road risk to a minimum.

Satellite tracking and in-cab cameras provide high-level monitoring of driver behaviour and assessment of on-road risk. Our fleets make use of the DriveSmartâ„¢ driver monitoring system, which provides feedback on each driver's performance. This allows us to reward drivers for excellent performance and facilitate behaviour change where required.

Around-the-clock vehicle monitoring from our control centres by experienced fleet and operations managers helps us to both contain risk and maximise vehicle productivity and utilisation.
